E-Commerce and Packaging Industry Challenges

After the Millennials, it is now the Generation Z who knows the world from their pockets. Today young people up to 25 years consider the Internet as a part of their identity and an omnipresence in their routine.

A study developed by the global communication consultancy agency ATREVIA and by Deusto Business School, based on the answers from 681 Portuguese and Spanish youths, concludes that for this generation the Internet is the undisputable channel to use to get information about products they want to buy.

In the virtual world, the consumer-brand communication is closer: there is information, sharing and interaction. So, the brands should present a personalized communication which activates emotions and promotes sharing consumer experiences on social media. In this study it is also presented the decisive factors in the moment of choosing a brand: price, suitability, quality and environmental responsibility.

“The Millennial Generation placed the Internet in the heart of communication and marketing. The brands made remarkable efforts to adapt to these new consumer behaviours of the first e-commerce generation.”

Packaging, as the first contact point between the brand and consumer, is going to affect the decision to try the product or not. Besides design the state of the package also influences the consumer. On a study developed by Sealed Air, 58 percent of the respondents stated that if they received a damaged product they would consider buying from a rival company or simply stop buying on that online store.
